The rising Souris River passes through Minot, N.D., Tuesday, June 21, 2011. "...the immense flooding set to unfold will become seared into the memories of residents in this area for decades to come." About 12,000 people have been ordered to evacuate their homes by this evening in Minot, N.D., as the Souris River continues to rise.

One of the hazards with Spring in North Dakota is localized flooding from snowmelt around the state.

Nancy Moen, 68, Minot, formerly of Rugby and Upham, died Saturday, March 26, 2011, in a Rochester, Minn., hospital.

The region still faces a potentially damaging flood season this year. The National Weather Service released its new flood forecast today, and Hydrologist Alan Schlag says there remains a high potential for high water.
