An Azusa neighborhood has become a common ground for gang violence

This above statement is B.S. Neighboring Glendora has the same economic "crisis" and went through the same recessions as Azusa but without the Gang problems and incidents. Rocha speak the truth. What has changed in Azusa from 30 yrs. ago when people in this neigborhood were on a waiting list to live there, compared to today? Really what has changed, it would be interesting to compare the demographics from the late 60's to early 70's to todays demographics. I'm sure the increased crime rate would mirror the increase of a "certain" demographic. Then again this could be said for most San Gabriel valley cities that are experiencing similiar problems. It's time to place blame where it belongs, if one doesn't show allegance to a country, they most likely will not have pride in their place of resident and/or surronding areas. These problem "residents" are treating this area as if they are just renting it, similar to how they would treat a "rented" motel room or rental car. They don't have pride or an allegence, so they continue to destroy the area while people like Rocha continue to make excuses for them and not placing blame where it belongs.

Sometimes the truth is hard for some to take, but until the problem is identified, it can't be corrected and the fine remaining residents will continue to live in fear while others make excuses for the criminals. These are criminals, not victims of the recession.....you idiot!!!

Azusa really seems to be headed downhill lately...

Taggers and gang members are one in the same and the other thing is that in general they tend to be second and third generation and legal ... I wish there was someone that could explain why these people are so willing to settle and have no desire to have nice neighborhoods ?

By looking at the photo gallery of Atlantis Gardens no wonder the neighborhood is going to crap .... Boarded up and vacant dwellings are beacons of crime wanted here ... First the scavengers come and strip away anything of value and sell it mind you someone still owns the property ... It does not mean open season for salvage and then the gang element comes in because it's a place to PARTY ... DUH!!!!

Mayor Rocha, you have a gang problem. In 1997, I was attacked and beat up on my porch by a teen female claiming Azusa 13. She was arrested (only because I held her by her hair) but was released the next morning. I had to move due to the harassment she gave me, daily. Didn't the Glendora police give anyone this information? Oh and my crime that deserved this beating....while in my home, I opened my door due to a female screaming only to find a group of thugs fighting in my driveway. Another neighbor called the police, but I was blamed. She came to teach me a lesson that NO ONE gets in their business.

Crappy neighborhood, you build apts, and "they will come". It's the same thing in Whittier! All of the gang problems and thugs live in a once nice area of uptown whittier. It got so bad there was a gang injunction a couple years ago from pickering to painter and beverly to hadley.

Note to self: Any city or neighborhood with the word gardens in it is a place to stay away from.. Just my opinion.

Okay people...the root to all these gang and tagging problems is oppression. This is a much bigger problem that can't be solved by slamming any particular ethnic group on a blog. People who live in an oppressed environment will compensate for what's lacking (family structure, lack of quality education, lack of quality jobs, etc). The article even quotes a cop saying the tagging group formed 2 years ago. The key word is formed, they formed because those individuals lives was lacking something, maybe a bond or connection to another person. Hmmm...it starts to make sense.
So instead of slamming a particular group, I challenge those who put the blame on others to get off their hamhocks and do something to make a difference so that we don't live in a crime rampant world.

I know, it's easier said than done and nobody on these blogs will do anything but I at least I've not put the blame on one particular ethnic group, since its a larger social problem.

Really, oppression...you mean like the Jewish people suffered? How about all the kids that grew up in worse areas than Azusa and became productive adults. By blaming others you too are part of the problem. People need to start taking responsibilty for thier actions and the actions of thier children. This isn't the fault of society, it is the fault of the individual and thier parent(s). This area isn't true oppression as you wish to claim. There are plenty opportunites to those who wish to educate themselves and not embrace the life of a criminal. It's amazing how you ask others to take care of thier problems yet you dont mention the lack of charactor of the individual nor responsibility of the parent(s).

I lived in Azusa in 1980 off Rockvale and Matchwood in the condo complex. Had just started our family and there was a group living in the same complex who goal was to harrass us neighbors. I also didn't like that the main grocery store (Lucky's on Gladstone) allowed and tolerated loitering in the parking lot by day laborers. We left after 6 months. When I read these kinds of stories about Azusa, I see that not much has changed. A13 was around back then and because the city hasn't managed to fully address the gang problem, it continues to plague the city.
