PennDOT officials said they are reaching the end of their patching project on Interstate 81 in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties, but the fixes, they said, are only temporary and the interstate actually needs much more work before it becomes a smoother ride.

A drunk-driving report Friday evening brought borough police to a man sleeping behind the wheel of a vehicle stocked with a slew of drugs.

The traffic backed up early Monday morning and lasted until the afternoon near the Luzerne/ Lackawanna county border on I-81 northbound.

Interstate 81 will be down to a single lane from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. today between Exit 165B and Exit 168 while Pennsylvania Department of Transportation replaces a 12-foot-by-1,000-foot section of the road.
