These bears are extremely hungry now, with several years of drought and at the end of another hot summer. The mother had good nutrition to enable her to have triplets, but they are under real duress now. They are growing cubs and she is a big girl who wants her children to eat and be healthy. This quartet comes through our area often, passing from the canyon to the fast food joints up near I-80, and we have watched them for weeks. Now that they have had human contact, they are in trouble. They will lose their natural fear of humans, and are almost certain to get into a conflict which will lead to the capture or death of all or several of them. DAMN! If only people could realize that Nature is not here for human amusement, and just stay away and watch them! Next time they are mentioned in the news, it will be a report of their demise. And all they have done is try to live where they were born.
