Spalding County has been removed from the ozone non-attainment area. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has announced a reduction in the size of the area around Atlanta which does not meet the state and federal air quality standards for ozone.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Times of Gainesville, The Daily Citizen of Dalton and the Statesboro Herald received 2011 story of the year honors at the annual Georgia Associated Press Association awards luncheon on Saturday.
