A flue fire that spread all too fast destroyed an historic Grange hall in the small ghost town of Ashwood on Sunday, but members preparing breakfast for the area's Easter celebration escaped unharmed, an area resident said.

The Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division asked for the public's help Tuesday to identify whoever is responsible for last week's illegal killing of a deer that was then decapitated and left to waste near Ashwood in Jefferson County.

Weary residents in rural Jefferson County near the Ashwood were busy Thursday battling a field fire that grew to more than 1,000 acres.
