Alameda County fire chief to step down in July
Chief Sheldon Gilbert, head of the Alameda County Fire Department since 2006, announced Wednesday that he plans to step down this summer "to pursue other career objectives and interests." He has served 29 years in Alameda County as a public safety responder, and has been an East Bay firefighter since 1986.
Two-alarm fire severely damages Ashland house
The fire started shortly after 9 p.m. at a house in the 2100 block of Pico Place at the intersection with Page Street, in unincorporated Alameda County, according to the fire department.
