Hopes Asheville lives up to its progressive reputation

Not to worry, Gordo, Brown Eye Newman, and Cecil are on board and pandering to the "domestic partner" contingent. It is at the top of old Gordo's priorities........ go figure.

Hopes Asheville sheds the "progressive" stigma just as soon as possible.

I hope city council will decline the benefits package. Asheville already has a reputation for supporting the alternative lifestyle. We don't need to attract more people who choose an alternative lifestyle just for the sake of attracting them. It is an expense we don't need right now just for the sake of appearing socially correct. Many in this community flatly oppose alternative lifestyles in all cases. Personally, I think a person's relationship is personal, but we don't need to extend benefits to a relationship not recognized by our government, that can be ended simply with a partner walking away. What would prevent abuse of the system? Hey-I can get insurance with my roomate if I just say we are co-habitating... In a marriage, spouses must have a legally approved end. Where is that TEA party?
