We should use the logic that's used against gun owners. If somebody breaks into your house(a crime)and they don't think you locked up your firearms enough, you are the criminal. It doesn't matter that people aren't supposed to break into your house. Have these Honda owners arrested because they did not have their vehicle locked in a garage with motion lights and an alarm system. How dare they contribute to crime and make themselves out to be the victim!

Take a ride up Daniels St. or maybe Salem St. Chances are they will be the only decent looking parts on a couple of toilet "lowriders" parked in front of some tripple decker crack house.

Why does he say to park your vehicle in a garage or a well-lit area. Surely having a well-lit area is not a deterrent to crime, ask the mayor of Fitchburg.

Spoken like a true gentlemen with chaos in his life blaming others for their probelms. this is Ashby's fault no one elses. thats sweet, Cops shifting the blame, ATTN ASHBY; its your fault you were robbed.why doesn't senior Police Patrolman derek pepple man up and step up and say ashby needs 24/7 police protection. If he wants to talk to the media then he should tell itlike it is instead of a song and a dance.maybe he would get more respect and maybe some truth for a change would ease tension in the lyman building and building behind for that matter.
looks like we found the new chief |

Ashby man - how is this the police department's fault? Can they have one patrol car driving up and down every street 24 hours a day? Grow up.
Didn't say it was. Tis the the towns fault.read the comment again. |

This is probably the biggest crime they have had all year, amazing since they are located next to Fitchburg.
They should just let residents take one of their cruisers from their fleet and patrol during slow times of day(which is pretty much all the time) and they would not have to cover the late shift. Actually, they probably do not need a Chief either, and would be smart to have state police provide police services, and pay a Chief from a neighboring town to just be "Chief" when they need one. |
Maybe he did say that and it wasn't printed. Were you there during the interview. I'm guessing not. If you watched the most recent selectmens meeting you would have heard that the selectmen have decided not to put the midnight cop on the town meeting warrant. And now lets bash the cop for giving some pointers on keeping your stuff safe. No matter what the police do its idiots like you that will find something to complain about. Grown up. |

IF POSSIBLE, being the key words.
What is wrong with you people? do you really think the police officers like not having 24/7 police? Ashby Man, where in his comment does it place blame? its a suggestion. something that may help deter someone, so it might not happen to you. im sure you voted yes, when it was known they would lose 24/7 coverage. |
yeah why do we have police anyways? Calling all residents, step right up and you can patrol the streets for a day!!!! Why would we actually want to survive on our own when we can just lean on other towns. Cant wait till I need something and it takes 20-30 mins for a officer and 20-30 mins for EMS, hey maybe the residents will come when you call. BTW would they donate their time? |

This is NOT the crime of the century. I agree, we don't need police coverage 24/7. We probably don't need it at all. Then we won't need a new chief at approximately 80 -90 thousand a year. Makes perfect sense. And while we are at it lets get rid of the 2 firemen/emt, who sit around the station all day, waiting for a call. What a waste of money. When are the people in the lyman building going to smarten up and put our money where it should be put. Roads would be #1 Maybe the 2 men at the fire station all day could go out and do some road work Just carry your radios.

I doubt having police coverage all night would have mattered. I am not 100% sure, but I think one of the cars hit was right on Rt31 by the town line....saw a silver car with no wheels driving by the other morning. Thats a pretty major road with people driving by at all hours....what are the odds police would have been around to stop it?
IMO, no police coverage is more of an issue for medical calls and accidents etc. Someone steals your wheels, the police will show up to take a report, which is the way its always been small town or large. The lesson here is to assume the next place to be hit will be you and take steps to make it difficult for scumbags to get what they want. I hate to say it, but if you have something they want they're gonna figure out how to get it. |
Get rid of the full time firemen who might answer one call a week and add a few more police officers. You must be ok with all of the drugs driving through Ashby every day. |
I guess you told me. I'll Grow up ok. if i'd had already done so i would be GROWN UP |
I am actually surprised that anyone would come to Ashby to try and rob anyone.
As a resident of Ashby, I know a lot of residents who actually prefer the old fashioned way of dealing with losers. I have a shotgun that is readily available and am not going to count on the cops to "save" me from being robbed. I would love it if someone tried to rob me, because a butt full of hot buckshot would probably change their career outlook in a hurry. Same goes for most of my neighbors. The best defense is a 'convincing" offense, I say. |
That's because he's not man enough to man up.
I agree with you 100%. Whoever did this was lucky they did not get caught because it would not have been pretty. The only B&E stories you read in the paper are the guys that did not get caught...
Another topics tuff guy. I think you forgot the U in your name. |
When you get arrested for doing this......then what? |
Self defense.......prove that the "intruder" or "criminal" didn't try to harm the homeowner when confronted. Who are they going to believe, a little punk of a person or the homeowner. Point of View, good for you. There should be more people not afraid to protect themselves and what they have worked hard for. I myself would do the same thing. |
