A 45 percent surge in population in Lamar County between 2000 and 2010 has meant many things: more schools; more subdivisions; expanded fire and law enforcement.

Lamar County Supervisors this morning approved the purchase of land for what eventually will become a voting facility/community center in the vicinity of the Martin Ridge subdivision off Old Highway 11.

The Mackinac Island City Council decided to award franchises to all three island ferry operators in a special meeting today.

As of 3:15 p.m. today 439 of the 1,333 voters registered at the Arnold Line precinct at Optimist Park, have cast their ballots.
