In any of the treaty countries, are MEN protected from gender-based violence? No. Most assaults are made by men against other men. It is so common that it generally goes unreported. Many folk (even feminists) consider it as natural.
Furthermore, if women's needs are taken into account, why should that result in a just and lasting peace? I do not see any logical connection. Equality under the law is nice, but since there is necessarily gender inequality in physiology (which may imply other factors such as intellect or morality), a just system would limit the amount of equality to those factors that are rational. I don't think that will happen. The demand for women's participation in decision making sounds nice, but in practice there are a limited number of decision makers. Intentional inclusion of some women necessarily implies intentional exclusion of some men. The included women will tend to be from the same families as the previously included men, and the excluded men will tend to be those who were excluded before. The net result will be the concentration of decision-making power in the hands of an oligarchy that can place both its men and its women in power, to the exclusion of others. |
