A Parker County inmate who escaped from a work detail last week fatally shot himself Tuesday morning in North Carolina as deputies were about to arrest him, authorities said.

Authorities in Archer and Wichita counties are investigating whether two suspects caught after a high-speed chase Tuesday are involved in a larger burglary ring.

The high speed chase and excitement in Archer County started around noon when an Archer County woman who went home on her lunch break surprised a burglar inside her house off Highway 79.

The incident began about noon today as law officers were investigating reports of two burglaries on SH 79 on the south edge of Wichita Falls.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Restland Cemetery, Olney, with Roger Deerinwater of First Baptist Church of Archer City officiating.
