And for those of us who are just tuning in and don't know any background, where is the new Eureka Skate Park located? Such a reference would also be helpful for old-timers who don't have the location of everything new already imprinted. Remember the old journalism rule --- write everything with the assumption that the reader just arrived from Mars.

Copper Gulch Park, off of Myrtle Ave.

Hopefully the skaters and bikers can find a way to share. I am sure there will be razor and rollerbladers wanting in on the action also.

golfers, motocross jumpers, parachutists, football players, dog-poopers, archery fanatics, sharp-shooters, tiddly-winkers and your average transient want to use the park too!!!
Just like the poor BMXers.... they have rights as well. awwwwwwwwwwwwwww Maybe we should cater to EVERY disgruntled fringe group who wants to horn in on somebody else's parade. |

”I'm always cautious of my surroundings. Nobody wants to see anyone get hurt -- it's not like a fun show or something, it just happens sometimes,” Bryce said.
It just happens sometimes. That's very reassuring when you're on the recieving end of a collision with a bike. So when that happens does the BMXer who caused the accident cover any medical expenses? |

Bulldoze the whole thing over, and put in a Chuck E Cheese. Everyone loves pizza and games

I assume that Eureka has plans for a method to pay for this foolish idea. This is like someone on welfare having pets, irresponsible.

Yeah Domino, let the kids sit home and play video games. Parks see a huge amount of use when they are put in. They are community assets, versus a lot of the folks on here who seem to be community asshats...
The bikes get along just fine with skaters, it'll work out. It's the insurance companies who are the problem and are causing this mess. Or perhaps ya'll flunked reading comprehension. |

NEO, I have no issue with parks. But a Skateboard park? Let me check, the City of Eureka has plenty of funds to build an amusement park for kids that will probably turn into non producers. Brilliant. Can we attach their future welfare checks?
And an 18 yo riding a rat? Sir get a plan. Obama won, the economy crashed like the Hindenburg, you might wish to get some job skills. |

I'm not a skater, grew up on bikes. Still addicted to those. I think that nonstructured athletic outlets like bikes, skating, motos, horses, whatever are essential outlets for youthful energy, and without those kinds of outlets, lots of kids get into the kind of trouble that does cause them to end up being non-producers. Most importantly, kids learn an activity that they can do for the rest of their life. Enjoying life is important. How the hell do you figure those kids will be nonproducers?

BMX already has a place to ride in Eureka.
|
||||
Absolutely. I see all the BMX parking in front of the Serenity Inn and the Broadway Motel. There seems to be a groove worn into the sidewalk in between the two places. |
||||
|
Neo, I agree. My only care is that the City doesn't have the money. If a private entity wanted to build such a park I would have no questions at all. Does that make sense?

BMX=CRANK LOSERS
What a waste. |

I think it's great that the BMX kids are getting involved and learning how things work.
They need to understand the issue of liability. They need to understand the process it takes to make proposals, address funding and liability issues before a project is approved, etc. You can't have something underway and then pop up with "we don't think it's fair not to add this, this, and this" and be upset if the answer is no. Where were they in the initial planning stages and helping with the fundraising and proposing a park that could accomodate both in the first place? They're not supposed to be at the Arcata skate park but the go there anyway so by that logic they should be allowed at the Eureka skate park? I'm not saying they're bad kids, but they do have some things to learn it would seem. |
||||
They don't waste. They pick at carpets pretty good looking for anything that might be little chunk of meth. Way to go carpet picking boat stackers! Without you Humboldt wouldn't be the place it is. |

The tweakers' going to be left behind by the Aliens next year when they finish relocating in another dimension.
|
||||

Yeah, makes sense Domino. There has been a ton of fundraising going on, some big donations, some grant writing too. Not sure how much the City has put in, but I don't think it was much.

I feel sorry for the people who live near the BMX METH scene's new hang out. They better put razor wire around their homes, and buy a large dog.

bmx and skaters don't mix. period. they'll also destroy the coping with their pegs. i can't believe they're even discussing this. adding bmx to this park will be a complete disaster. go ahead and try and watch what happens... some parks elsewhere have bmx hours, or days, but i wouldn't recommend this either.
