Thyere were hundreds of voters for the octopus versus squid question. Chill out. Besides, if Hollywood made a movie on the subject (with suitable levels of violence and perils to Earth), people would pay to watch it.

Only in Santa Cruz would the Independence Day comments focus on preferences between a squid and octopus. It's too bad the guest column from Maggie Quale isn't posted. Then we could all thank the self-described "left-leaning" writer for telling us it's alright to fly Old Glory today, despite it being "synonymous with the conservative right's policies and values" and "stained with blood and oil." Perhaps local lefties could fly a flag with a big asterisk on it. Or just be honest and fly the flag of Cuba - a country dearer to their "policies and values."

on the comments, always trying to run somebody down and make stupid unfounded relationships.

Yeah lefties want to be like Cuba blah blah blah...

At least you post so people can see the morons for what they are...

Too bad the right wing neocons ran the USA into a ditch.

Go get your 4.50 a gallon gas, enjoy the war, and start thinking about looking for a job.

Ginny, it's time to stick your head back into your hole. Keep your rants to yourself or with those who share your small minded thoughts!

And to Pat Hamb - VERY well said.

I suddenly realized that the octopus versus squid contest was intended as a poll of local voting for the presidential election.

Ever heard of "octupus management"? It's someone who's got his tentacles in everything. McCain would call it "bipartisanship." Also, an octopus is rather short and squat, like McCain.

But a squid is taller, more slender, slightly more brownish, and moves quickly from place to place, shooting ink to conceal its position. Folks, I am talking about Obama.

When I voted, the squid was winning by about 70% to 30%. I have no doubt that the local vote will show 70-30 for Obama, for exactly the same reasons.

Come on, you sealife voters, fess up! You voted your politics, didn't you? Well, I did.

I was going to vote for the Dogfish but she didn't make it through the primaries and since I don't like either the Octopus or the Squid I decided to just stay home and not vote.

Ginny needs to be deprogrammed from patriarchal brainwashing.
She thinks that women are just incubators that must behave themselves and not destroy their contents. Women must be good little farm animals and keep breeding so their ex-fetus kids can be used as cannon fodder in the current (and future) wars planned and waged by patriarchal knuckle draggers.

If women had access to contraceptive birth control (no fertilized egg=no fetus=no abortion) the world would run out of soldiers (But the right wing wahoos are against contraception too!

Great letter:

Maria Garcia claims her relative was rejected by the Pacific Collegiate School lottery and has jumped on the bandwagon of the other PCS detractors claiming elitism. Everyone has opinions on this matter, but this does not make them right. If any of these folks would spend some time researching, visiting the school or attending the board meetings, they would get a true picture that would allow them to formulate an intelligent opinion. Perhaps Maria should spend some energy and focus on improving the school performance in PVUSD instead of berating PCS.
