For the past 30 years El Paso constables have been a joke & embarassment. Those who get elected are laymen, not lawmen and all of a sudden they think they are law west of the Pecos. Do away with these clowns.

Fire everyone of these useless so called constables! At best they rob tax payers. This is an outdated law that Texas needs to get off the books. If you can't get rid of them, pay them minimum wage. They have caused the county nothing but problems. You go to the county office in the NE and there is a fat one standing around in there always, makes one wonder what his function is.
And oh by the way if the law suit is dismissed bring charges on them for a frivolos law suit.

How would letting go three deputies prevent Ramirez from doing his job required by the state?
Or is he saying that without his deputies he would have to work full time at his job?
If you cannot do the job you were elected to do Ramirez I sugguest that you step down and not run for re-election.

Why not consider what other states do, treat them as quasi-govt emplyees, govet contractor? They would get paid a small base salary and get paid on numner of warrants served, serving papers, etc? They would get a per centage and be responsbible for their own equipment. Just a thought.

<quoted text> You got it, Moe. Was in there one time and 3 of them just standng around BS'ing, doing absolutely nothing. From all the stories I have seen, most, if not all of these little "tin badges" are pretty much the criminal-type. Assualting people, discharging fire arms, Misuse of County property, excessive force, abuse of authority , etc. Hell they should just cut them out of the budget. They are a useless expense that WE can't affford. I'm sure that ANY Sheriff Deputy in El Paso is more than capable of doing the simple little "errand boy" stuff these bozos do. Is anybody in charge of them?? Who supervises them??
Standing around BS'ing? Sounds just like Border Patrol

Well they are not doing a very good job considering the millions of illegals we already have in the US. Hence my comment... too much BS'ing and not enough "doing"

You igorant dumbasses don't know what you are talking about. Constables are the very few county personnel who actually generate revenue. It's about time someone like Ramirez woke up idiot Cobos and his band of scumbag commissioners who base all budget decisions on personal agendas.

You people call the constables and their deputies criminals, however no one mentions that the majority of these commissioners that are trying to eliminate them are under investigation or indictment for public corruption. During this so called “budget crisis” the commissioners, have given themselves substantial pay raises, while cutting working class people from all county departments (not just the constables). It seems like the only interest the commissioner’s court is looking out for is their own. The real joke in El Paso County isn’t the constables, but instead the thugs that call themselves the commissioner’s court. Constable Rameriez is at least making an effort to protect the jobs of his deputies, which non of the other constables are willing to do. FYI it cost the county about $200,000.00 to operate all seven constable precincts last year. The constables generated approximately $400,000.00 dollars last year which resulted in a profit of approximately $200,000.00 for the county. Commissioner Escobar has distorted these numbers and misleads the public yet again.
