The name of the mayor of a small McDowell County town who passed away last week will remain on the June 9 ballot, according to election officials.

Actually this isn't that uncommon, as there have also been living politicians who lost elections to people that have died before the election.

John Ashcroft, a Republican, was defeated in 2000 by Mel Carnahan, the state’s Democratic governor, who died in an airplane crash three weeks before the election. Ashcroft was Attorney General under George Bush.
Google it, its a lot more common than ya might think.

Your mother did a wonderful job as mayor for the town of Anawalt. I for one am thankful for all that she did. I hope you and your family are doing better, I know this has been very hard for you and I hope you know that you are in our prayers and we ask GOD to comfort you at this time and keep you in His Loving Arms. Your mother loved you very much, talked about you and your beautiful family and how proud she was of you. She was a great lady. She is MISSED by all of us. Our little town will never be the same.

As badly as people talked about her, I think it's funny that no one else is on the ballot. Don't you? Seems like someone was just blowing hot air and knows in the end, she really did do a great job. We all have our faults and when you are in a position such as she was, you can expect ridicule. I think everyone should vote on a place for a memorial to her called "The Garden of Eva."

I hope you are all doing well. I know it's hard and it will never pass, but it will get better as time goes on.

The Garden of Eva...what a beautiful thought to honor such a beautiful lady.

The hateful remarks being made are from those who were jealous of her. She accomplished so much and worked so tirelessly for the town she loved. I hope Anawalt can find someone able and willing to step in and continue the many projects already in place, and with the same vision and drive that Eva had for the community.

My thoughts and prayers are with her family. Eva was a friend and an inspiration to me. She is missed by more people than you will probably ever know about.

Eva worked with us during survival skills for women in eckman and was a great inspiration to those ladies which whom she had encounters im sure she will get the crown well deserved God Bless your family
