1 You are right. That plea bargain was going through, no matter what. The family vigourously protested prior to the hearing, told the judge why during the hearing, then graciously accepted what they couldn't change. You are right also in that their tenaciousness and demand for (as the sign says) justice for Carl insured that he didn't get off with time served. Although I am sure they still wish Carl's killer would have got life in prison, they can feel good that through their actions, the public will be protected for at least another 22 years. The 22 years is the time he will have to serve before being eligible for parole. According to the state judicial Web site, he is probably eligible right now for parole on the burglary charge. Perhaps the parole board will recognize that he is a career criminal, however, and refuse to grant him parole on that charge, which would add a few more years to the minimum before he can be paroled on the murder charge. |

1 You are absolutely correct. It may not seem right to trade 22 years of dirtbags life for the life of his victim but at least it is over and the family can rest assured that he will be old and gray when or if he ever gets out of prison. The old saying a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush rings true here. It is always better to get a guilty plea with no appeals than it is to put it in the hands of 12 unknown people that may have a different agenda. |

It's about time that he was sentenced!! Throw the key away!

What is wrong with Franklin County's Probabation Department? Time served? He should serve the rest of his lifetime. Rehab is not for vicious animals.

North- may your hands never be able to raise quick enough to protect your face, no one in prison have your back, no family or friends ever come see you, and may you A S S always be unprotected!!!!!! Most of all I hope you see Carl's innocent face every night when you try to sleep! You are beyond scum of the earth.......

This nightmare will never be over for the Ryders. I don't believe in rehab. Rehab is for drug addicts and alcoholics, not for the mentally off. I just don't think Carl got justice. My prayers are still with his family and friends.
