Community members gather as they celebrate music from Thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas.
Nearly 175 area church members gathered Sunday afternoon and celebrated the three seasons - Thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas. A celebration of music was held at St. John Lutheran, Alma, featuring a selection of instrumental, singing and bell choir numbers. Presentations were provided by members of the Maple Hill Community Church, St. John Lutheran - Alma and Trinity Lutheran - McFarland, and a combined community choir presentation. This annual event is sponsored by members of the Wabaunsee County Ministerial Alliance. A door offering was collected for the Ministerial Alliance to assist them minister to the less fortunate.

County seeks agreement for landfill property
After spending the good part of a couple years sending offers back and forth, commissioners authorized eminent domain proceedings a few weeks ago on a property housing an old landfill site.
Monday, the landowner and his attorney met with commissioners to discuss the situation in person.
Wabaunsee County Commissioners and property owner Winston Amick, represented by Attorney Keen Umbehr, have been debating the fair rental rate for the property, which KDHE is requiring the county to maintain until at least 2026, with the potential for that requirement to be extended.

Wabaunsee County Extension Council holds annual meeting - elects 2009 executive board
Members of the Wabaunsee County Extension Council met Monday, December 1 for their annual meeting and election of officers.
County Extension Director Karaline Mayer welcomed those attending and introduced several guests.
Northeast Area Extension Director Dale Fjell gave the crowd a brief overview of the "state of the extension service" in Wabaunsee County. He told those members serving on the Program Development Committee (PDC) how important their positions are.

Area churches join for Three Season Music Festival
On December 7, 2008, St. John Lutheran Church, Alma, will host a music festival with choirs from area churches, bells and organ mu-sic, celebrating the seasons of Thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas.
The music will begin at 2:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran, 218 W. 2nd, Alma. Refreshments and fellowship will follow in Memorial Hall.

Wabaunsee County native vets now may be honored on courthouse memorial
Veterans from Wabaunsee County who served in Vietnam, Korea and Desert Storm who previously have not been listed on Wabaunsee County's memorials for these conflicts now may have the opportunity.
Commission Chairman Ervan Stuewe the roll currently consists only of people who were residents of Wabaunsee County at the time they entered the service and served between specific dates.
However, these criteria leave out some who grew up in Wabaunsee County but moved away before serving.
"Recently we've had some people who grew up in Wabaunsee County who want their names on the roll," Stuewe said.
