Saenz arrested for racing

A man was arrested for racing after Alice officer Juan Martinez observed him and the driver of another car racing along E. Highway 44. Officer Martinez noted the two vehicles revving their engines loudly while at a red light in front of the local hospital. The cars were a silver Chrysler 300 and a red Ford Mustang.

Woman led police on chase through Alice, crashes car

A woman from out-of-state led officers on a chase through Alice at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday after allegedly stealing items from Walmart. Alice police were notified of the theft and security officers there gave police the description of the woman and the car she was driving.

Man allegedly threatened South Texas coaches

A man has been accused of barging into a locker room and threatening several Alice High School football coaches in an ex-player dispute involving his brother. Jim Wells County jail records show 25-year-old Aaron Garza of Alice was charged with criminal trespass and four counts of assault on a public servant.

Utility Fund at risk because it's drained each year

Elected officials of the City of Alice want to increase our water and sewer rates in order to address supposed deficits, which will occur in 2014 and 2015, in the Utility Enterprise Fund. They, however, fail to mention that at least $1.2 million will be transferred from that fund to the General Fund for each of the two years.
