TiVo announced its quarterly earnings yesterday, revealing a net loss for the quarter of $10.8 million.

The DVR pioneer says that it added 277,000 subscriptions from cable and satellite companies, the biggest increase from pay TV providers in more than seven years.

Its biggest downside is that it does not record programming, so cannot compete with personal video recorders such as MySky or Freeview, or even TiVo for that matter.
