Fire and EMS crews search a pond in Whitecourt's Rotary Park after a 19-year-old male was reported missing at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29. Divers searched the pond until 11 p.m. when approaching thunderstorm forced officials to call off the search for the night.

The pilot was able to land safely without injury. The plane had no visible damage, airport manager Will Stewart said, adding that the pilot "felt a bit of a tingle" when the lightning hit his plane.
