UFC sells over 13,000 tickets in just 24 hours for its Canadian debut
“I'm pretty confident it will be a huge success”
- The UFC sold more than 13,000 tickets in just 24 hours for its Canadian debut in April and that's before the ticket window opens to the general public.
UFC president Dana White said Monday the tickets were snapped up on the first day of pre-sales open only to members of UFC Fight Club, a fan club for the mixed martial arts organization. Fight Club members pay US$74.95 a year for first crack at tickets and other UFC perks.
The UFC is predicting a sellout of more than 20,000 for the April 19 card at the Bell Centre with Montreal's Georges St. Pierre in the main event. Sales to the general public open Friday. Read more

Bloc Quebecois lays out conditions for his party to support the budget
- Bloc Quebecois Leader Gilles Duceppe says his party will support the federal budget only if the Conservatives promise to spend a total of $15.3 billion in six different areas.
Duceppe wants the Tories to increase their aid package for the manufacturing and forestry sectors to $5.5 billion from the recently announced $1 billion.
The Bloc is also calling on Prime Minister Stephen Harper's government to add $3.5 billion for post-secondary education to bring funding to 1994-95 levels.
Duceppe said at a Bloc caucus meeting in Victoriaville, Que., Thursday that the party's other major demand is $3.9 billion to help the elderly. Read more
