Thank you very much for posting my editorial on this site. We were away for a short holiday and came home to 21 messages on our phone regarding this editorial. People phoned from Lac La Biche, St. Paul, Edmonton, Red Deer, and as far away as Kelowna, B.C. As a writer where the political can become personal, I have been on the phone this morning speaking via message machines and secretaries to the various writers of letters to the Two Hills & County Chronicle. Why people felt they had to respond to an editorial in the Edmonton Journal in our local weekly paper is beyond me; but, c'est the vie in small town Alberta. My first issue with these letters is the one written by Ms. Kim Heyman in which she claims I misquoted Mr. Danyluk. Ms. Heyman was not present at the meeting of which I wrote per my editorial. So Ms. Heyman cannot say that I "misquoted" Mr. Danyluk. I have 22 pages of notes from the meetings Mr. Danyluk held in Two Hills on May 22nd, 2007. I have phoned Ms. Heyman and left a message on her machine for a retraction to please appear in next week's paper. Which, of course, we all know it won't. Secondly, Mr. Ron Rudkowsky is a very educated man and a man who I have always greatly admired and respected since moving here over 20 years ago. But, for Mr. Rudkowsky to use the words "hate, malace, slant and exaggeration" in an otherwise okay critique from his perspective is also uncalled for. I also left a message on his answering machine inviting him to come read the 22 pages of notes, which, of course, he will not because it is easier to call names than it is to find out the facts, isn't it, in small town Alberta? I expected my editorial to inform and possibly ignite, but not bring forth innuendoes that break the rules of good debate. Name calling and giving false information certainly does these things.

April 7 is when finance minister Iris Evans will announce details of what projects could be on the chopping block as the province deals with a $1.4 billion deficit. In announcing the first shortfall in 15 years, Evans said hundreds of millions in capital spending will have to be delayed. Health care, education and transportation projects are expected to take the brunt of the $779 million reduction in capital spending. Health Minister Ron Liepert is already on record as saying expansion plans at the Peter Lougheed hospital are going to be scaled back but work on the new south hospital will continue. Some school construction or renovation projects might even be delayed.

Since the days of Dwayne and Tom nothing much has changed, we know have Peter which is more of the same old politics from the past and this is causing major disruptions in what should be straight ahead politics. Why do LLB leaders have to always make it look so complicated to guide people into the future. They seem to like the closed door planning of the past and this is what keeps starting the fights, even though fighting is all a big part of our history can we not find a way to change the bad habits of the past. Maybe in the near future the right person will show up, hey how about one of our good local native brothers if Barack Obama can do so much for positive change in the US and around the world, then just maybe that is the change we need here. The sad thing about the upcomming vote is it won't do a single thing to change our politics. With a yes or no vote and I expect a yes with a close run from the no side, the closed door style politics with all the name calling will continue. You would think the present group would look back at the past problems of our politics and make the proper changes to ensure that we don't keep repeating the stupidity of the past, but to no avail it never happens we just plunge deeper into the dirty old ways of the past. Hopefully after all this negativity that has occured over the last few mounths of debates or is that war of words, we will get on a positve track of politics. Remember now, sticks and stones will break my bones but calling names will never hurt me. Ta Ta.
