Real estate enters financial planning

One of the country's biggest real estate agencies, Ray White, has stunned the financial services industry by setting up a financial planning arm at a time when the sector is suffering from a crisis in confidence following a series of scandals. An Australian Financial Services Licence is imminent and the family real estate business, which has a network of 750 real estate agencies across Australia and 500 mortgage origination brokers, is expected to open its financial planning business before Christmas.

California home sales drop as median price rises

California home sales slipped in August after two months of increases as the median home price rose, the California Association of Realtors reported today. Closed escrow sales of existing, single-family detached homes in California totaled a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 394,280 units in August, according to information collected by CAR.

Mall mashup: Washington Prime to buy Glimcher

Washington Prime Group Inc., which spun off from mall operator Simon Property Group earlier this year, is buying rival mall operator Glimcher Realty Trust for about $2.06 billion. Charlotte's Childress Klein buys former SciQuest building in Cary

A Weston Parkway office building in Cary that was recently vacated by growing-software firm SciQuest has been sold to a Charlotte investor group for $12.5 million. Real estate records show a joint venture partnership led by Charlotte-based Childress Klein Properties acquired the three-story building at 6501 Weston Parkway from a subsidiary of Archon Group , the real estate arm of investment bank Goldman Sachs .

Macy's, Bloomingdales to offer same-day delivery

The online shopping feature, announced Monday, is getting rolled out this fall in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Houston, Seattle, D.C. and New Jersey -- but not New York City. Macy's is running the service through a company called Deliv, which has similar arrangements with Foot Locker and a few other retailers like Westfield Group and General Growth Properties.
