A bank moved to foreclose on a Georgia house that got a luxury upgrade three years ago from the TV show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." Patricia Harper of Lake City in Clayton County near Atlanta, told WSB-TV ...

I think this is a damn shame that these people didn't think more of the gift that was given them. To mortgage a luxury home that was given to them absolutely FREE no mortgage is just plain dumb. Maybe it was too much for them to get a taste of the good life because they certainly were not used to it considering how they were living before they received this blessing. But I wonder how they are going to enjoy revisiting their old life really soon. The children are the ones who suffer from the stupid mistakes of their parents. Were the kids even considered when they decided to make this dumb move. Now to walk away in shame because of the choice to place themselves in bondage when they were free will be on their minds everyday because they will never be able to seperate themselves from this story. We all make mistakes but this was a shot in the foot. Some people just can't be helped. I hope all works out well for them.

I'm troubled by a statement the Harpers made that appeared in another news article:
Harper told Channel 2 they invested the loan proceeds in a construction business and the business hasn’t been good. She didn’t say how much of the money is left. “What’s going to happen is instead of keep paying my mortgage, I’m going to take my money and not pay my mortgage because I’m being harassed,” said Harper. http://www.wsbtv.com/news/16980412/detail.htm... They received a brand new house free & clear, borrowed $450,000 against it on a business venture and now feel harassed because the lender expected them to live up to their contractual obligations? Please....... |
I just looked at that link and have to agree with you. She's keeping money that is not hers via the bank contract. You can't take their money and not give either back, a payment nor the house she bargained with. It's very disturbing when one (the Harpers) thinks its ok to steal because someone (the bank) is asking for their rightful property. very sad. |
