Composting is not difficult, but it is sort of a lifestyle change that requires commitment. I'm not sure it will sweep the nation, but this is a promising start.

This new law will prove to be a blessing. Landfills need to circumvent "organics" from being dumped in them. About 40 to 60 per cent of the waste stream by volume is compostable. The creation of methane gas from landfills must be prevented. Methane is 28 times worse then carbine dioxide and is a big contributor to "global warming". The problem here is the big waste companies love status quo and want to leave it "as is". Their all about the money. Recycling and composting is an interferance in their money program. The environment is a secondary concern of theirs. gbrec@comcast.net Gary from Michigan

The world, let alone this country, better pay attention to eco facts.
One in particular is our "top soil"; itsdepleted the nutrients down to a 20% factor and this isn't something you rebuild over night. Composting can and will rebuild our presious soils so we can continue producing healthy foods for the population. Let's stop spraying chemical on crops and stop contaminating our food chain. Think about this: Only after the second world war did we start spraying out crops in order to increase the yield. All about the money, isn't it ? We need to "grow up" when it comes to the environment.

This is a stupid law, if it were that important then the city should issue free bio degradable bags, so someone is making money and I'm sure that the companies that makes these cute little green color bags are giving Gavin Newsome his cut in campaign funds contrubutions.
