NY panel to consider statewide wireless network

An advisory council plans to meet publicly Tuesday on the Statewide Wireless Network, the $2 billion project the state Office for Technology threatened to cancel unless 19 flaws identified in a two-county test are corrected.

Victoria Dillon, spokeswoman for M/A-COM, a division of Tyco Electronics, says the company has been working aggressively to address the issues by an Oct. 16 deadline.

The company underbid Motorola and was chosen in 2004 to build wireless transmission towers and provide equipment to allow police officers, firefighters and other emergency personnel to communicate statewide, starting with test projects in Erie and Chautauqua counties in western New York.
