Intel's Barrett sees no slowdown in world PC market

LISBON (Reuters) - Intel Corp , the world's biggest microchip producer, expects no slowdown in global demand for personal computers despite economic problems in the United States and in other countries, Intel Chairman Craig Barrett said on Wednesday.
He also told reporters in Lisbon, where he was to sign a draft deal with the Portuguese government to make 500,000 cheap portable computers for schools, that the company was upbeat on demand prospects for low-cost computers and broadband wireless systems.
South Korea's Hynix Semiconductor swings to 2nd-quarter net loss on factory closure costs

Report: Matsushita works on new display
Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. will begin test production of next-generation displays for TVs next year with plans for commercial output as early as 2011, Japan's top business newspaper reported Tuesday.
Competition is heating up among the world's electronics makers, including Japanese rival Sony Corp. and Samsung Electronics Co. of South Korea, in OLED, or organic light-emitting diode, displays.

Qualcomm says Nokia settlement boosts outlook
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Qualcomm Inc on Thursday raised its guidance for the full-year 2008 after announcing a legal settlement and a technology licensing agreement with Nokia .
Qualcomm shares were up as much as 19 percent at $53.40 in premarket trading after the news. Its shares had closed at $44.82 in regular Nasdaq trading on Wednesday.
Qualcomm's full-year, pro forma earnings per share, excluding items such as its investment arm, would be $2.11 to $2.13 on revenue of $10.3 billion to $10.5 billion.
