The origin of the town is not known. An Amazigh village called Anfa stood on the present-day site in the 12th century; it became a pirates' base for harrying Christian ships and was destroyed by the Portuguese in 1468.

This areas was named Anfa during the Roman era and it was an important port, at 16th century it was a refuge to pirates and Portuguese destroyed the place, few time after they come back to stay and named the place Casa Branca , Spaniards adapted its name for their language few decades after.
