Bulgaria faced another day of record low temperatures on January 31 2012, with a "Code Orange" weather warning in force for the whole country and with the severe weather having claimed two lives the previous day.

A security guard employed by a private firm committed suicide with his own pistol in the garden of the embassy of Japan in Sofia, Bulgaria's Interior Ministry said on January 13 2012.

Doremi Dzhorleva, a tax official in the northwestern Bulgarian town of Vratsa, who went missing about a week ago, has been found dead.

After the traffic and power supply chaos that followed heavy snowfalls in Bulgaria this past weekend, the situation has largely returned to normal but the morning of January 10 2012 found states of emergency still in force in some places while thousands of Bulgaria are without power and water supplies.
