Context no longer is an issue when it comes to the racially tinged comments offered by Atlanta Hawks General Manager in regards to Miami Heat forward Luol Deng . In the wake of leaks about how Ferry evaluated Deng prior to the start of NBA free agency, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday obtained and released an audio recording of Ferry's June 6 conference call with team officials.

Owner wanted Hawks GM fired for racial slur about Heat's Deng

Calling his general manager's racially insensitive comments about Miami Heat forward Luol Deng worse than the bigoted remarks that led to Donald Sterling 's ouster from the NBA , an Atlanta Hawks minority owner sought the firing of team executive Danny Ferry. The latest twist involving comments directed toward Deng came with the release of an internal Hawks memo by Atlanta television station WSB.

Comment about Heat's Deng triggered Hawks' racism scandal

The courtship of Miami Heat free-agent acquisition Luol Deng by the Atlanta Hawks apparently triggered the events that have left the Hawks under the microscope for bigoted and racially insensitive operations, as well as for sale. While Deng was not mentioned in the racially charged email sent by Hawks owner Bruce Levinson that triggered Sunday's announcement of plans to sell the team, a related investigation was sparked by a comment from Hawks General Manager Danny Ferry that referenced to Deng.
