According to a report by FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal , the Red Sox have made third baseman Mike Lowell available -- and could be willing to pick up as much as half of the tab.

Mike Lowell tours Disney World in more certain times, after he was named MVP of the 2007 World Series.
Red Sox acquire Jeremy Hermida
This is not a high price to pay for the potential that Hermida still has. This is some insurance in case we don't sign Bay or Holliday, but I am sure the Sox view Hermida as more of a 4th outfielder at this time.
Brian MacPherson's Sox Beat: Fire up the hot stove for another winter
RED SOX general manager Theo Epstein has no worries about the right side of the field.
Wait and see again for Mike Lowell

One: Bay is goos and the sox might not keep him for some unknown reason. Two: Lowell, is he healthy enough anymore? Could he get something back in return? Three: Gonzo - just because the Sox love to have us Red Sox fans pissed about not knowing who will or won't play shortstop.

In the american league having all pitching and no hitting is a recipe for disaster.
Jason Bay or Matt Holliday on the Red Sox? Don't rule out neither of the above
Jason Bay was one of the most productive outfielders in Major League Baseball. But will the Red Sox re-sign him? Never forget that as this baseball season closes and baseball free agents everywhere take stock of what they think they are worth on baseball's open market.
