They always say you can't have enough pitching, and the Seattle Mariners were reminded yet again Tuesday how true that adage can be.

In his best start of the season, Jarrod Washburn became a footnote Saturday, all but forgotten despite not allowing a run in 6 2/3 innings.

Raul Ibanez and Jamie Burke singled in runs in the 10th inning, boosting the Mariners to a 4-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians in the middle contest of a three-game series.

If the Mariners and Twins could have come to terms on a trade two weeks ago, Jarrod Washburn would be pitching on a playoff contender just a short drive from his hometown.

The Mariners have already been bringing up plenty of bodies from Triple-A Tacoma so far this season, and many of those names still frequent both the lineup and the pitching staff.

Whether they like it or not, Oakland opponents are going be seeing lots of left-handed pitching in the immediate future.

If Jarrod Washburn didn't have trade rumors and losses to deal with, this might be a pretty good month.

The Mariners are continuing their dialog with 2008 first-round draft pick Josh Fields.
