A ground ball by Chico Walker bounced into the glove of Mets second baseman Wally Backman, and as Backman flipped the ball to Keith Hernandez for the final out of a Mets victory, the TV call of Mets announcer Steve Zabriskie was this: "The inevitable has become reality." The Mets had clinched the 1986 National League East championship on that play.
