Before I jump into the rankings for the second basemen in the Orioles' minor league system, I'd like to thank the readers who suggested that I also discuss defense in these posts.

Bynum Now Starter at Shortstop

KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 8 -- The Baltimore Orioles' continuing quest to find a replacement for departed shortstop Miguel Tejada took another turn on Thursday. The Orioles activated Freddie Bynum from the 15-day disabled list and Manager Dave Trembley installed him as the team's starting shortstop, ending Luis Hernandez's tenure at the position.
To make room for Bynum, the Orioles optioned utility player Eider Torres to Class AAA Norfolk. Torres went 2 for 9 in three starts for the Orioles.
"There's been a lot of plays I thought that could have been made, should have been made and weren't made," Trembley said of naming Bynum the everyday shortstop. "So we've got to try something different." Read more
