Before Sunday's game at Safeco Field, Brandon Moss said he wasn't getting much satisfaction out of his better at-bats and more consistently hard contact lately. His teammates and coaches, though, saw that Moss was getting close to getting out his nearly two-month funk.

The A's can exhale, just a little, because with their 4-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, they have some breathing room again in their quest for the playoffs. Jon Lester threw six innings of scoreless ball and Sam Fuld and Brandon Moss each hit a solo home run to ruin the weekend for the Mariners, who had visions of pushing past the A's in the American League wild-card race.
Injured A's catcher Geovany Soto is expected to miss the remainder of the Mariners series and rest through Monday's off-day. Soto experienced back spasms in the third inning of Friday's loss and was feeling only slightly better Saturday following an uncomfortable, restless night.
The funny part of this game is that it wasn't actually the lefty that got to the A's tonight. The A's had plenty of chances in this one, but could only score two runs.
Though normally in Fantasy Baseball, you'd start your best players every week regardless of matchups, in those weeks when you do need a fill-in, whether because of injuries or the total collapse of a trusted starter, Scott White is here to help. Heading into last night's contest, the A's had averaged just 3.4 runs per game during an 8-19 stretch, a span that just about knocked them out of contention for the AL West crown. However, behind five hits and four runs batted in by Josh Donaldson, Oakland rolled to an 11-2 victory over the White Sox and have a 1 1/2-game lead for a wild card spot.

There was a lot of talk in the A's clubhouse after Monday's latest debacle, a 12-inning, 5-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox, about how Oakland had been "one pitch away" from a win. Maybe.
With an opportunity to turn around their season against a moribund White Sox team, the A's blew the game twice, in the 9th for the tie and the 12th to lose it 5-4. Somehow, someway, they found a way to make this September nightmare even more painful.
