But that was before a successful long-toss session last week gave way Monday to a 25-pitch test from the pitching mound at Target Field, where the Tigers and Twins played Monday. 'Good,' Sanchez said Monday, with a nod and with a smile that suggested this tune-up was more than reassuring for a right-handed pitcher who has not thrown in a game since Aug. 8. Tigers pitching coach Jeff Jones agreed the test was positive in all respects.

Rays call up Nick Franklin from Triple-A

Tampa Bay has called up switch-hitting infielder Nick Franklin, whom the Rays acquired from the Mariners on July 31 in the three-team trade revolving around David Price . Franklin hit just .210 in 27 games at Triple-A following the trade, but he came up with some big hits during the International League playoffs and the out-of-contention Rays will want to get a look at him to evaluate for next season.
