The bad news for the Giants came just before the start of Monday night's game against the D-backs at Chase Field. SF Giants Update: Brandon Belt feels ready to

UPDATE, 5:15 p.m.: Could Brandon Belt be activated as soon as tonight, even though he has not faced live pitching since Aug 6? It wouldn't be the goofiest idea in the world, especially given how good he feels. Roster space is not an issue in September, and if nothing else Belt could play first base late in the game and give the opposing manager pause to think that Belt might pinch-hit.

Giants complete three-game sweep of Diamondbacks

Jake Peavy won't pitch against the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend at AT&T Park, a bit of a shame considering he is 14-3 lifetime against them with a 2.28 ERA. But that doesn't mean the fiery right-hander will be idle after setting the tone with 52/3 innings of stingy pitching in a 6-2 Giants victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday, framing the upcoming National League West showdown in a most proper way.
