The Arizona Diamondbacks have been eliminated from the NL West, losing to the St. Louis Cardinals 12-3. Albert Pujols hit a three-run homer and had four RBIs and Joel Pineiro worked seven sharp innings to lead the Cardinals to Thursday's victory.
St. Louis took the last three games of a four-game set, leaving the Diamondbacks 4 1/2 games behind the Dodgers heading into the final weekend and also knocking them a game below .500 at 79-80. St. Louis, which had dropped 10 of 12 after losing the series opener, was eliminated earlier in the week.
