CANNES, May 19, : The Cannes film festival took time out from the movies to raise money for Haiti on Friday night, with Sean Penn at the helm pleading the humanitarian cause at a celebrity gala.

Hosted by Giorgio Armani for Sean Penn in what was an official Cannes Film Festival fundraising event, philanthropic institutions Artists for Peace and Justice and the Happy Hearts Fund joined with the Haitian Relief Organization in collecting monies to benefit the still struck nation.
