Not exactly that simple anymore. The actual amout of money from the sale of a car is mostly spread out among the many facilities involved. If the "foreign" car is built in a plant in the US, most of the money goes to support that plant, salaries, maint, etc, etc, etc. Dealerships, sales, service etc, etc. The actual amount of profit, relatively small, does go back to the mother country. However, being that almost all major auto companies are publically owned, this "profit" belongs to the stockholders of the company, which could easily be you, or me. I would imagine there are (were) many foreign owners of GM and Ford stock, so that profit could be said to be going overseas also. It just isn't that simple anymore. The American auto makers are going to have to earn buyer loyalties again. They certainly have the product.

I am so tired of the Buy American crap. I buy what I want, regardless of whether or not it's American built or not. I buy Toyota's cause I have had better luck with them than any other manufacturer. Now eventually I might not like the Toyota's if they start falling apart, but that is later on.

Something silly is the fact that a few years ago I went to the store to purchase the AMERICAN FLAG to proudly fly it during JULY 4th....it said MADE IN TAIWAN.
