GOING HOLLYWOOD! Sundance Film Festival winning director, Debra Granik leads a crew of filmmakers from L. A. and New York including acting talents John Hawkes and Jennifer Lawrence on the set as it was being filmed in Rockaway Beach. This film is one of many collaborated with producer Jon Kilik, one of NYC's top independent movie producers. He has helped finance many top Hollywood films including Pirates of the Caribbean and Babel as well as many more. Pictured here are the camera crew piecing together one of the film cameras. The guy on the left is bringing the main camera lens. The Production Assistant looking on (center of picture) is Rockaway Beach resident, Jeremy Lowe. This film, WINTER'S BONE, adapted from the novel by Daniel Woodrell is scheduled to be premiered at the Sundance Festival sometime this fall in anticipation of landing a movie distributer. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence will be staring opposite Charlize Theron in an upcoming film and if it does well it could mean great things for this one as well.

Way to go ROCKAWAY, proving once again there is a whole lot more to talk about in Rockaway Beach.

Actually it is the deadline for entering the Sundance Film Festival which is this fall. The film makers hope to complete post production in time to make that deadline. The actual Festival itself will be held in January at Park City, Utah. Many popular films have started out this way to sell themselves to distributers.

Also, Debra Granik is not actually pictured here, only some of the members of the camera crew and the production crew as they were setting up to film the truck driving away. At the time of this photo, Debra was with the Director of Photography and the rest of the camera crew who were shooting close ups of the actors, Hawks and Lawrence, as they sat in the truck in the background. This is the same truck used throughout the film. Three cameras were used to film this scene where John Hawks smashes the bar owners windshield (not in picture) with an axe.

NOTE OF HUMOR: The photographer did not know they were actually shooting off in the background when this picture was taken. There was no, "quite on the set", at this time because the close up shots didn't need any sound. However, the Director of Photography was very upset about the flash he saw in the corner of his monitor as this photo was being taken and the production crew had to leap into action to prevent further interruptions.
