My mom and dad were married in 1946 in Bonham - they spent the first night of their honeymoon in Paris at the Gibralter, on their way to Hot Springs.

Did you know that the Gilbrator Hotel used to be a Grayhouse Bus Depot? It was very active with people coming into Paris and registering in the Hotel. ;)

There was a good restaurant at the hotel. The main entry was big and really grand. During WW2 the place was packed with wives, sweethearts, moms and dads coming to see the soldiers at Camp Maxey. They had galas and dances in the ballroom. It was really a nice place well into the late '60's.

I used to ride a bus to Paris and watch the matinee at the Grand Theatre on Saturdays, eat a Woolworth's lunch counter or the Tropic Restaurant, shop at Belk's or Famous shoe store, and ride the bus home in the evening. The bus stop was at the Gibralter.

I love that story...thanks for sharing it with us.

I definitely remember the Corner Drug Store and the Tropic Restaurant for lunchs. I remember Woolsworth and Kress that always smelled like roasted peanuts and popcorn...I'm getting old :)
