economic abuse or negrect takes place when the parent or caregiver doent provide for the child with basics things like food, clothing, shelter, or refuses to pay for the child medical or dental care even though they have money to do so.
child abuse can have terrible long term consequences, like physical injury, serious phychological and emotional problems. children can build up a lot of hurt and anger inside, so they must get help if they have been abused. even if you are not being abused yourself yu can help stop the cycle by reporting any form of abuse in family and community.

children act 38 of 2005 states that all parents have a legal obligation to look after their children this means they must maintain or take caere of their childrens basic needs food, clothing shelter medical care and education and the law treats all the children the same it does not matter if they live with a single parent, grandmother or are adopted all the children have right to the basic needs of life.
who has to pay maitence
the law always put the interest of the child first and does not allow parents to escape their duty just becauese they dont live witht heir children or only see them afew times a year. parents have also to pay maintence if they have other children or if the other parent gets married or remarries or starts a relationship with someone else
