I Think Erick, OK	Reply » \| Report Abuse \| Judge it! \| #3 Oct 1, 2010 I believe that college was a term applied to grades 9-12 in that time. Many or most students only went through the 8th grade back then. I am pretty sure that a high school degree qualified a person to be a teacher in rural schools. I have seen 8th grade textbooks for that period and they were harder than most high-schools are now.
