For self-rescuing, you inflate an airbag on the end of your paddle and use it to help you climb in to the cockpit. I've seen it on YouTube but I think in practice its very difficult.
I ventured out in chop the other day and realized that in chop the thing is likely going to capsize. On rivers it is wonderful though. I'm going to pack a tent and food and wander for several days on the Connecticut River.

Yes I will be careful- the real hazard is capsizing far from shore in cold water. That situation can easily turn fatal. Ever been in really cold water? It's hard to move, let alone do anything useful. Maybe I will buy a drysuit at some point.
@non-hostile Jackalope: yeah, LOL I though of that... what's another word for Tippy then? Maybe 'Tipsy'.
