Footprints Under the Pines

Hannah lay weeping in her room at the Boyne City Inn. Katherine Hated her; she could tell by the silence that hung between them. Hannah had known something was wrong, yet she had slept through the night and let (this disaster happen)She didn't deserve to be loved.

Silently she rose, dressed and stepped out the door. She wandered aimlessly down the street, wishing she could relive that awful night. She'd do it differently this time. She'd stay awake if it killed her.

She walked along the brick roadway with only the dim streetlamps to light her route. Shadows danced in alleys and doorways, creating a sense of forboding. She thought of what Sheriff Payne had said: People can vanish in those woods and never be seen again.

What if Hannah were to vanish without a trace? Would anyone care?
