AP is reporting that the staff sergeant who killed 16 Afghan villagers near Qandahar on Sunday morning had suffered a head injury in a vehicle incident in Iraq, before being deployed to Afghanistan.

This is one Afghanistan newspaper's reaction today to the story of the massacre by a US staff sergeant of 16 villagers , including 9 children, near Qandahar.

Taliban fighters struck at Afghan security forces Sunday, storming an army recruiting center in the north that sparked a daylong gunbattle, and ambushing a bus carrying army officers in the capital the first major attack in Kabul in months.
