Ever since the advent of skateboarding in the 1960s and '70s, the sport has been identified with daredevil adolescent boys.

The X Games announces three new events for its global expansion: Women's Skateboard Park, BMX Dirt and Mountain Bike Slopestyle.

On Saturday twelve-year-old skater Alana Smith became the first female to land a McTwist in competition, claiming a $1,000 Best Trick prize at Exposure 2012, an all-women's skateboard competition at the Clairemont Skatepark at the Mission Valley YMCA in San Diego, Calif.

Cara-Beth Burnside is seated at the head of the class. It's a soupy, late spring afternoon and the Encinitas Historical Society is hosting a book signing at the Old School House for Susan Burns' Legendary Locals of Encinitas , which features Burnside.

Women's skateboarding phenom Leticia Bufoni has been climbing up a lot of podiums lately, with a win earlier this month at the fifth annual Girlzilla competition in Somerset, United Kingdom; a second place finish at the Mystic Sk8 Cup in Prague, Czech Republic over the weekend; and a silver medal in Women's Skateboard Street last month at X Games ...
